"Everett" Duncan married 12-8-1826 to Patience Avery d/o Daniel Avery. Bondsman: George Duncan.

1830 census of Johnston NC has "Aargett" Duncan, presumably Averyt.

Acc. to Mary Ann (Duncan) Dobson's research as posted on Rootsweb, the Johnston County, NC deed books contain the following:

Sept. 1832 Averett Duncan to Hinton Vinston, trust deed, Duncan owes Vinson $100.32 and interest following judgment from 12-25-1830 to said Vinsen all his interest, right & title to estate of his grandfather, Abraham Averytt and all right etc in estate of Aron Avera to which he may be entitled. Trustee Hinton Vinson. Signed Hinton Vinson, Averett Duncan. Witness Daniel H. Bryan. (source FHL film)

9-23-1833 (same source quoting same Deed book): Averyt Duncan and wife Patience of Johnston Co. NC to James Barber of same $30 all rights etc to land formerly owned by Aaron Avera deed on Swift Creek adjacent lands of Natham Bryan and Kadar Powel and others 629 acres the Duncans being entitled to one eleventh part. Witness Alexander Duncan.

1840 census of Wilson County TN shows Evret Duncan in household with on male under five, two 5-10, one 10-15, and one 40-50. Females are only his wife (one 40-50) and a daughter under five.

1850 Census, Wilson County TN, District 17

Averet Dunkin, age 55, born NC, estate value $600

Patience, age 44

Henry, age 22

Ransom, age 17

Sam? (male), age 10

Mary, age 8

William, age 5

Nancy, age 3

The 1850 slave schedule for District 17 of Wilson County TN has faded page bottoms, so it's possibly I simply missed him, but I did not spot Averet Dunkin as a slave owner in 1850.

1860 census, Johnston Co NC, Neuse River District, post office: Clayton

Avrit Duncan, age 66, farmer, no marked real estate value, personal estate value: $48.

Patience, age 52

Mary, age 17

William, age 15, day laborer

Nancy, age 12

(next-door is Henry Duncan, a physician, born c. 1805, thus his brother, not his son)

1860 slave schedule, Johnston Co NC, District West of the Neuse River

(on same page as his brothers George & Alexander, and brother-in-law Alvin Johnson)

Avery Duncan owns one female, age 15, and one adult male, aged 33, plus boys aged 8, and 5, and 4 months (data gathered in July so boy born in March?)

And in 1861, the Civil War began

The One World Tree shows Averyt Duncan born 1794 died c.1860. Says his wife was the daughter of Daniel Avery (son of Alexander Avery) and Patience Smith (daughter of John Smith and Sarah Turner).
