Jackson, Michigan census mortality schedule 1880: Fred Pfleger, 31, single, farmer, born in Germany, died in RR train accident, March 1880. How long a resident of this country: 1 year.
Death certificate: Fred "Pflager," age 31, died March 31 1880. Occupation: laborer. Location of death: Jackson, 5th ward. Mother and father's name not recorded. Birthplace: Germany. Caused of death: killed by railroad.
I have the small article written about the accident, dated 4-2-1880, and need to locate it to transcribe what it said. Essentially, he was riding to the round house to see if he could get a job, jumped off with another man as the train approached the end of the line, and landed badly, running into the switch. The article is entitled, "A Fatal Fall." It has the quote, "He has a brother who has been here for some years and works for Carl Dettman. We understand that Henry Gass is an uncle."
connection: the daughter of Franz' brother, Johann/John Pfleger, became Irene Pfleger Wachdorf when she married Edward Wachdorf in 1909.
