Dear Dolores
Hi! Greetings to the working girl from the guy who's gone to work at last! (a little anyway.)
You'd better feel greatly honored when you get this letter--it's the first one I've written in over a year. So I'm in practice. You can tell.
Say hello to your mother and Dad and Larry for me, will you? And did you tell your mother about walking over the Indiana State line? If you did, cancel the hello and don't even say I wrote.
I am now a full-fledged "white collar worker." For the past few days, and for the next few, my job consists of revising the Diesel Experimental Department's filing system--so I am a cross between a glorified file clerk and a hot-rod engineer. After a week or so I'll be wroking on the test floor, of Fairbanks Morse's new "C-line" Diesel-electrics.
Provided you have stuck with me so far, would you consider a date of some sort for Saturday, June 25, 1949 at about 8:00 PM? At this time I will be in Chicago, and also on Sunday (oh happy Chicagoans!)
Beloit is a very nice town and though it's not very exciting, John Peterson and I and another fellow from Chicago have been having a good time. We loaf, read books, and such. You will be surprised to know that according to the company physical I took, I have gained ten pounds, and am two inches shorter that I was last week. Amazing, no?
It is now 9:30 PM and I am becoming drowzy (is this a word?), so I will hit the sack. Write me soon--
Love*
Les
